Qualcomm's Latest 5G Modem: Exclusive to iPhone 16 Pro?

In the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup, tech analyst Jeff Pu predicts that only the Pro models will showcase Qualcomm's latest modem, specifically the Snapdragon X75. Pu's insights, outlined in his recent research report to Haitong International Securities, highlight a strategic shift by Apple in differentiating the Pro models from the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are expected to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem carried over from the iPhone 15 series.

The Snapdragon X75, unveiled in February 2023, represents a significant leap in 5G technology. This advanced 5G modem-RF system is engineered to propel the next phase of 5G development, boasting enhanced carrier aggregation and other technological improvements that contribute to accelerated 5G download and upload speeds compared to its predecessor, the X70. Notably, the X75's combined mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G transceiver occupies 25% less circuit board space and consumes up to 20% less power, as reported by The Verge.

A key feature of the Snapdragon X75 is its support for the latest "5G Advanced" standard. Positioned as the next evolutionary step in 5G and a precursor to 6G, 5G Advanced incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning enhancements to elevate 5G performance. Furthermore, it extends 5G capabilities to a broader range of device types and use cases.

Anticipate Apple to highlight the 5G Advanced support on the iPhone 16 Pro models, mirroring its promotion of LTE Advanced on the iPhone 6s back in 2015. This move signifies Apple's commitment to staying at the forefront of connectivity technology, ensuring users experience the latest and most advanced features in their devices. As the smartphone landscape evolves, the iPhone 16 Pro is poised to offer a cutting-edge 5G experience with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem.
